Name: Joshua Kerr

Age: 17

Joshua Kerr

At just seventeen years of age, Joshua Kerr is rapidly gaining recognition in the competitive swimming world. He calls Manly Beach his home, and it's here that he's honing his aquatic talents as a dedicated member of the SMNE Manly Swimming Club under the watchful eye of Coach Justin Rothwell.

Josh's journey in swimming began at the tender age of two, evolving from a simple pastime into an abiding passion and an ambitious dream. But for Josh it's not just about winning medals; it's about personal growth.

As a member of the SNSW Flippers Squad, Josh is looking forward to the opportunities it presents. He eagerly anticipates the chance to compete and learn alongside fellow swimmers from different NSW clubs.

"Being part of the Squad is about improving my swimming and meeting new people. I want to challenge myself.”

In the next 12 months, Josh's focus is clear: "I want to continue to enjoy my swimming and keep progressing”.

When reflecting on the relationship he shares with his coach, Justin Rothwell, Josh simply says: "My coach knows me better than I know myself!"

He does not hold onto superstitions or elaborate rituals to fuel his success at competitions. For Josh the key to success is a strong commitment to the basics: eat well and get a good night's rest.

Like many young swimmers, Josh has a role model he looks up to: Caeleb Dressel, and if you had to sum him up in one word, it would be "determined."

Beyond the confines of the swimming pool, Josh finds peace and adventure in surfing. And, while Josh might be best known for his impressive swimming skills, he has a hidden talent—he can solve a Rubik's cube.

As Josh Kerr continues to make strides in the world of swimming, his determination, passion, and love for the sport distinguish him as a promising talent. With every stroke, he pushes his limits, and the future holds significant promise. With the ocean on the horizon and a Rubik's cube in his hand, Josh Kerr is leaving his mark, one lap at a time.

Josh is one of 160+ swimmers selected to represent the ‘Mighty Blues’ in the 2023/24 SNSW State Squads.
