The first 'Her Sport Her Way - A Fast Lane to Coaching' a success in Wagga Wagga

29 June 2023

Swimming NSW has delivered a successful first female-only coaching course as part of the Her Sport Her Way NSW Government grant awarded earlier this year.

Last month, 25 budding female coaches commenced their coaching journey at the Oasis Aquatic Centre in Wagga Wagga where the foundation coaching course was delivered by SNSW in partnership with Swim Coaches and Teachers Association NSW (SCTA NSW).

It’s the first course conducted under the terms of the NSW Government grant, which aims to empower potential and current female swim coaches and swim teachers by offering them opportunities for further education and leadership which are cost-effective, accessible, inspiring, and welcoming.

Course presenter Debby Tattoli, who was assisted by Chris Meyers, SNSW Regional Country Director and Billy Nicholson, SNSW Club Support Officer, said she was excited to help deliver the program.

"I was thrilled to present the first SCTA NSW 'Her Sport - Her Way - A Fast Lane to Coaching course in Wagga Wagga. This was a groundbreaking program designed to exclusively for women who aspire to make their mark as swim coaches,” said Ms Tattoli.

The feedback from the participants, who enjoyed a mix of presentations and poolside sessions, was extremely positive. Some of the comments included:

“Wow! What a day in Wagga. Our first “Her Sport Her Way - A Fast Lane to Coaching” was amazing.”

“Wanted to say a huge thank you for the Coaches workshop. I really enjoyed the course and picked up many tips and tricks. My pool is summer only and I'm now so excited to get to the end of October and put into practice the things I learnt.”

“Thanks for supporting our club, we had a great day and learnt so much. Highly recommend this course”.

“Our thanks must go to Billy Nicholson, the SNSW Club Support officer who organised the young swimmers to attend the workshops. They were in the water demonstrating which enabled the participants to truly understand the strokes and how to correct technique. And, Chris Myers who was in Wagga in his role as Regional Country Director and was very happy to help out where needed,” added Ms Tattoli.

“We can’t wait to see you all coaching on pool deck sometime soon and are excited for our next course.”

The next course is planned for July as follows:
