Name: Chloe Brodrick

Age: 16

Meet Chloe Brodrick, a rising star in the world of open water swimming who hails from the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). At just 16 years of age, Chloe's dedication to her craft and unyielding determination have already earned her a spot in the NSW Open Water Squad, setting the stage for a promising future in the sport.

Chloe's journey into the world of swimming began at 11 years when she first started squad swimming. It wasn't long before her passion for open water swimming became apparent, and at 14, she took the plunge into her first open water event. Under the expert guidance of her coach, Steve Meredith, Chloe's skill level and knowledge of open water swimming have grown exponentially, making her a force to be reckoned with in the swimming community.

As a part of the NSW Open Water Squad, Chloe aspires to deepen her knowledge and elevate her skill level further. She's excited about the upcoming camp and the prospect of competing in the Open Water Championships.

When asked about her swimming idol, Chloe says she looks up to Lani Pallister, a formidable Australian swimmer known for her prowess in and out of the pool. Drawing inspiration from Lani, Chloe is determined to make her mark in the next 12 months by aiming for medals in the 7.5 km and 5 km events at the 2024 Australian Open Water Championships.

The thrill of challenging sets and the camaraderie with her squadmates are what Chloe loves most about swimming. The Ginninderra Swimming Club has become her second home, offering support and encouragement from fellow swimmers and coaches alike. She speaks fondly of her coach, Steve Meredith, who she says “always brings out the best of me as a swimmer in every training session and is always supportive.”

One of Chloe's most cherished swimming moments came when she clinched the gold medal in the 5 km event at the Australian Open Water Championships in 2022. This achievement was particularly special as it was her first time competing in the ocean, a testament to her adaptability and determination.

Before each competition, Chloe sticks to a pre-race ritual of eating Weet-Bix and a banana for breakfast. It's a comforting routine that fuels her body and mind, helping her perform at her best when it matters most. Outside the pool, Chloe enjoys playing AFL and cherishing moments with her friends. It's a well-rounded approach to life that keeps her motivated and energised both in and out of the water.

If there's one word that perfectly describes Chloe, it's "determined." In the face of challenges and tough sets, she remains resolute and gives her best effort every time.

As she continues her journey, Chloe serves as an inspiration to aspiring swimmers everywhere. Keep an eye on this talented young athlete. Her determination and passion are sure to propel her to even greater heights in the sport and we eagerly await her future triumphs in the water.
