In 47.89 Kyle Chalmers (Marion) added another gold to his collection for the Men’s 100m Freestyle on night one of the NSW State Open Championships. The race to watch, saw James Roberts (Somerset) claim silver in 49.60 and Cam McEvoy (TSS Aquatic) take bronze in 49.72.

Leaving it down to the wire Cate Campbell did her new home of Knox Pymble proud, claiming gold in 53.21 for the Women’s 100m Freestyle with Emma McKeon (Griffith University) for silver in 53.73 and sister Bronte (Knox Pymble) in 53.81 for bronze.

18-year-old Elijah Winnington (Bond) took home gold in the Men’s 400m Freestyle in 3:48.68 dropping six seconds off his preliminary time, with Sim Welson (club) for silver and Mack Horton (Melbourne Vicentre) with Bronze.

The Women’s 50m Butterfly event had familial sentimentality attached as Olympian Ron McKeon presented his daughter Emma McKeon (Griffith University) with silver, as gold went to fellow Australian Dolphin Holly Barratt (Rockingham) and bronze to Yolane Kukla (Palm Beach Currumbin).

Coming fresh of their National Event Camp the Women’s 100m Breaststroke was taken out by Jess Hansen (Nunawading) in 1:06.91. With Southport Olympic’s Leiston Pickett for silver and Bond’s Jenna Strauch for bronze.

Her time on the National Event Camp served Hansen well as she continued to drop seconds off her time in the race.

“It was really good to do something like that, it was great to be with the other breaststrokers and get some tough training done before a big block of competition” said Hansen.

Matthew Levy (North Sydney) proved once again why he’s one of the top S7 swimmers in the world claiming gold in the Men’s Multi-Class 50m Freestyle, with Liam Schluter S14 (Kawana Waters) and Oscar Stubbs S13 (SOPAC) for silver and bronze respectively.

The Women’s 50m Multi-Class was one to watch with 14-year-old Jasmine Greenwood S10 (Bay & Basin) scoring herself top honours. Followed closely by Katja Dedekind S13 (USC Spartans) silver and Auburn’s Jenna Jones S13 with bronze.

The Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay went to Knox Pymble A in 4:16.90, adding another medal to the club’s growing tally for Claudia Neale, Georgia Peregrina, Claudia Fydler and Campbell.

Bringing the night to a close was the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay going to Jorden Merrilees, Daniel Cave, Oliver Nash and Benno Negri representing Melbourne Vicentre A, in 3:46.44.
