NSW State Champs gears up for the final night of racing

17 March 2019

The final morning of swimming began this morning at the Sydney Olympic Pool and whilst the weather outside was less than ideal the atmosphere inside was one of excitement.

Emma Mckeon (Griffith University) will be going for the golden hat-trick as she squares off against TSS Aquatic teammates Laura Taylor and Alice Stuart in the Women’s 200m Butterfly, before competing in the Women’s 200m Freestyle.

The Men’s 100m Butterfly event will see Olympic gold medallist Kyle Chalmers (Marion) compete after qualifying first in 53.04. Following his killer 47.89 in the Men’s 100m Freestyle on night one of competition scoring him gold, his fastest time since Rio, Chalmers will aim to make it three, after collecting another medal in the Men’s 200m Freestyle last night.

The Men’s 50m Freestyle will pit Australian Dolphins against one another as Cam McEvoy (TSS Aquatic), James Roberts (SOMGC), Grayson Bell (TSS Aquatic) and Alex Graham (Bond) battle it out for the gold.

SOSC’s Matt Wilson clocked in 2:14.96 for the Men’s 200m Breaststroke to qualify first after his win in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke last night in 59.83, the same time that scored him the NSW State Record in 2018.

It will be a Para Pan Pac Champion showdown in both the Men’s and Women’s 100m Freestyle Multi-Class event.

The Men’s event will see Braedan Jason S12 (USC Spartans), Liam Schluter S14 (Kawana Waters), Sydney’s own Matt Levy S7 (North Sydney), Timothy Hodge S9 (Auburn), Nathan Jason S12 (USC Spartans) and Mitchell Kilduff S14 (SLCA) all vying for top honours.

The Women’s event will showcase the top NSW Multi-Class swimming as Ellie Cole S9 (Knox Pymble), Jasmine Greenwood S14 (Bay & Basin) and Katja Dedekind S13 (USC Spartans) go head to head.

Closing out the competition will be the 4x100m freestyle.

Finals kick off at 5:30pm tonight, stay tuned to @nswswimming on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all the action. For live results head here.
