2019 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships: Day 5

After the tenth session (and 5th Final session) was done and dusted the NSW swimmers once again showed the tenacity necessary to be successful at this level. The day added another 13 medals to the NSW Blues Medal Tally winning 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze.

In the Men’s 50m Backstroke William Yang (Ravenswood – Coach Bobby Hurley) broke through to collect his second Gold medal of the meet. In doing so he produced his first swim under the 25 second mark winning in 0:24.98…another PB for William and his 3rd medal of the meet.

In the Men’s 18/19yrs 50m Breaststroke Luke Beckingham (West Illawarra – Coach James Greathead) won Gold in 0:29.48. In doing so he beat his NSW team mate Finn O’Connor (Carlile – Coach Misha Payne) by 0:01… Finn claiming the Silver medal in 0:29.49.

The third Gold medal of the night was in the 19/20yrs 200m Butterfly and went to Hailey Blatchford (Sans Souci – Coach Craig Chantler) whipping a great 1.52 secs off to establish a new PB of 2:18.94…terrific job! To make it a NSW 1-2 Alexandra Rees (Novocastrian – Coach Adam Beisler) claimed the Silver medal in 2:20.77. In the Women’s 17/18yrs 200m Butterfly Cara Sutherland (Carlile – Coach Ryo Kito) picked up the Bronze medal in a great PB time of 2:17.94.

NSW swimmers collected an additional 2 Silver medals…both were breakthrough swims that will certainly put a spring in their step! In a massive PB of 4:16.34 Sydney University swimmer Sarah Wellfare (Coach Paul Bruce) picked up the Silver medal  by swimming 7.51 secs faster than she has before in the 19/20yrs 400m Freestyle – now that is how it’s done! Also breaking through for his first National medal was Shaye Booth (Mingara – Coach Steve Critoph) in the 18/19yrs 50m Backstroke in the time of 0:26.26 – another PB for the Central Coast swimmer.

To round out the medals Georgina Seton (Campbelltown – Coach Justin McEvoy) picked up the Bronze in the Women’s 17/18yrs 50m Breaststroke

Para Swimming

The NSW Para swimmers produced another batch of great swims to bring home 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.

Leading the way was Timothy Hodge (S9) (Auburn – Coach Clinton Camilleri) swimming yet another PB in the Men’s 100m Butterfly to tie for the Gold medal in a superb time 1:02.01…I can’t say enough about Timothy (or Coach Camilleri) except great job… go you good things!!

Picking up the Silver medal in the Women’s 50m Freestyle was Jasmine Greenwood (S10) (Bay & Basin – Coach Bob McEvoy)… she is having a superb week.

Picking up 2 Bronze medals were Taylor Corry (S14) (Nelson Bay – Coach Tom Davis) in the Women’s 100m Butterfly. Taylor’s time of 1:08.29 was under the A Qualifying time for the Australian Para Swimming World Championship Team. The other Bronze medallist was Ricky Betar (S14) (Auburn – Coach Clinton Camilleri) in the Men’s 50m Freestyle in a new PB time of 0:24.37.

Great stuff NSW Swimmers and Coaches…GO THE MIGHTY BLUES!
