Vale Grant Stoelwinder

01 February 2023

Swimming NSW extends its most sincere thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of former Olympic coach Grant Stoelwinder following his sad passing.

Grant was selected onto his first Australian Dolphins team as a coach at the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal and was a member of several international campaigns in the years that followed, including the Beijing and London Olympics, further World Championships, the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships.

He was widely regarded as one of the best sprint coaches in the world through the mid 2000’s with both Libby Trickett and Eamon Sullivan breaking World Records under his training tutelage, as well as a number of other Dolphins including Geoff Huegill, Andrew Lauterstein, Matt Abood, Todd Pearson, Adam Lucas, Jim Piper and Tommaso D’Orsogna.

Grant’s Head Coaching career began in Perth in the late 90’s where he enjoyed years of sustained success with the West Coast Swimming Club, before moving to the east coast where he held several roles including Head Coach at the New South Wales Institute of Sport.

Grant made a significant contribution to our sport throughout his time as a coach and Swimming NSW is saddened by his loss.
