Swimming royalty will take to the iconic Sydney Olympic Park pool tonight to kick off Swimming NSW's premier event - 2021 NSW State Open Championships.

NSW State Open will follow an afternoon Heats, morning Finals format in order to give athletes the best possible preparation for competition conditions in Tokyo.

Contenders from across the country are vying for positions in the Finals, as it’s the last chance to competitively race and gain a coveted national qualifying time before next month’s 2021 Australian Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast.

Mighty Blues Matt Wilson (SOPAC) will kick off his State Open program with the Men's 50m breaststroke. While not his pet event, facing off against Jake Packard (USC Spartans) early in the meet will provide an opportunity for Wilson to suss out the Rio Olympian's form.

Cate and Bronte Campbell (Knox Pymble) are sure to heat up the pool in one of this evening's most hotly contested events - the Womens 100m freestyle. Joined by Wollongong local Emma McKeon (Griffith University), Madi Wilson (Marion), Holly Barratt (Rockingham) and hungry up-and-comer Kaylee McKeown (USC Spartans), this event will be an exciting preview of the tight competition we're certain to witness at Olympic Trials later this year.

Keen to defend his title, Kyle Chalmers (Marion) will go up against fellow Rio Olympians Cameron McEvoy (TSS Aquatic), Mitch Larkin (St Peters Western) and David Morgan (TSS Aquatic) in the corresponding men's event.

Back on the Australian swimming scene after a successful 2020 ISL season, Emily Seebohm will go head to head with ones to watch Minna Atherton (Moreton Bay) and Kaylee McKeown (USC Spartans) in the Women's 200m backstroke.

Central Coast native and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Brad Woodward (Mingara Aquatic), will face off against the Comm Games title holder and dual Olympian Mitch Larkin in the Men’s 50 backstroke.  Also vying for a spot in tomorrow morning's finals are hot contenders Will Yang (Loreto Normanhurst), Shaye Booth (Mingara Aquatic) and South Australian, Travis Mahoney.
