NSW State Champs Wrap for 2019

It rained gold for South Australian Kyle Chalmers on night three, clocking in at 52.61, the Marion swimmer became the new NSW State Champion in the Men’s 100m Butterfly. Adding to his already impressive collection, Chalmers walks away from this competition with additional gold medals in the Men’s 100m and 200m Freestyle.

Joining Chalmers on the podium was Matthew Temple (Nunawading) in 52.87, dropping 1.50 seconds of his qualifying time, and David Morgan (TSS Aquatic) in 53.10, dropping 2.23, for silver and bronze respectively.

SOPAC’s Matt Wilson gave a world class swim in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke, claiming gold in 2:08.56. This marks the third fastest time globally for the event this year. Following for silver was James McKechnie (Starplex) in 2:17.75 with bronze going to Ashton Baumann (Griffith University) in 2:18.65.

The Women’s 200m Freestyle was a Dolphin’s trifecta with Madi Wilson (Marion) in 1:58.18 for gold, close behind was Emma McKeon (Griffith University) in 1:58.33 for silver and rounding out the stellar podium line up was Mikkayla Sheridan (USC Spartans) in 2:00.26 for bronze.

Somerset’s James Roberts dropped 0.12 off his qualifying time to come in 22.54 and take gold in the Men’s 50m Freestyle. 0.05 behind was Cam McEvoy (TSS Aquatic) in 22.59 for silver and William Yang (Ravenswood) in 22.81 for bronze.

Katja Dedekind S13 (USC Spartans) claimed her fourth medal of the meet in the Women’s 100m Freestyle Multi-Class, with Ellie Cole S9 (Knox Pymble) taking silver and 14-year-old Jasmine Greenwood S10 (Bay & Basin) claiming her sixth medal adding another bronze to her growing resume.

The Men’s event of the 100m Freestyle Multi-Class saw Liam Schluter S14 (Kawana Waters) claim gold Timothy Hodge S9 (Auburn) for silver, marking his fifth medal of the championships for both competitors.  

Ravenswood took home the gold in the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay, Clare Robertson (57.70), Olivia Adams (56.91), Eliyah Malkin (58.90) and Imogen Thackrey (58.80).

With the Melbourne Vicentre team, Luke Gebbie (50.70), Benno Negri (50.91), Oliver Nash (51.39) and Mack Horton (50.56) finishing off the night and the competition with a victory over Bond and Somerset in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay.
