MLC Duel in the Pool Cancelled

09 August 2021

Due to the Covid-19 outbreaks in certain states across the country, Swimming Australia has made the tough decision to cancel the MLC Duel in the Pool event, which was scheduled to take place between 18-22 August in Queensland.

A Swimming Australia led initiative, the MLC Duel in the Pool had been created to recognise the achievements of the athletes and coaches who were selected to represent Australia at international events, after FINA postponed major international meets including the World Junior Championships in Kazan, the World Junior Open Water Championships in the Seychelles and the World Universiade Games in China.

General Manager of Performance Pathways, Jamie Salter, said he felt for the athletes who were eager to compete at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

“It’s disappointing we couldn’t hold the MLC Duel in the Pool as planned and I feel for all the athletes and coaches who were looking forward to pulling on the green and gold,” Salter said.

“Unfortunately, with so many states affected by Covid-19 and restrictions in place, we didn’t have a choice but to cancel the event. I’d like to take this chance to also thank MLC for their continued support of our pathway programs and the next wave of talent – hopefully we’ll be back out on pool deck soon.”
