SCTA NSW 2023 Conference and Awards Dinner

What an extraordinary event it was, showcasing the exceptional coaches and teachers we have right here in NSW! Coaches and teachers from all across the state came together to network, attend engaging presentations, and celebrate outstanding achievements.

Over the span of one and a half days, this conference presented an impressive lineup of speakers: Janelle Pallister, Sander Ganzelves, Alex Clarke, Cameron Gledhill, and Jon Shaw. They covered a diverse range of topics, including the evolution of distance swimming, creating speed in age groupers, coach wellbeing, building successful programs, and developing age groupers for long-term success. Each session left attendees inspired and challenged, offering fresh ideas and multiple perspectives on coaching.

This year's conference also incorporated the second "Her Sport, Her Way" Swim Australia Foundation Coach Course, which drew over 35 participants. These aspiring coaches and teachers have embarked on their journey in swim coaching and teaching. A heartfelt thank you goes to Debby Tattoli and Haydn Belshaw for conducting the fantastic course. We are also grateful to the squad members from the Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre who served as demonstrators during the course.

Saturday evening was a joyous occasion as we celebrated the remarkable achievements of our coaches at the Awards Dinner. The atmosphere was electric, honoring coaches who guided their swimmers to their first national gold medals and those who coached athletes onto Australian teams. The evening saw the awarding of the three major awards were won by: Adam Kable (Coach of the Year), Misha Payne (Para Coach of the Year) and Chris Nesbit (Open Water Coach of the Year). We also recognized Rhiannon Kocmar for her outstanding service to swim teaching. The pinnacle of the night was the prestigious Life Membership awarded to Ruth Everuss, a true legend who has made a significant contribution to our organization and the sport of swimming.

We extend our appreciation to Benjamin Tuxford, President of SCTA NSW, and our incredible MC, Robbie Cox, for their invaluable work in making this evening a grand success.
