Day 1: Woodward and Hodge win Gold on the First night at Opens

The 2024 Australian Open started today at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. The competition has both Olympic and Para swimming and is a great opportunity for the best swimmers to come together as part of their preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic Trials that are in June.

On night one finals action Bradley Woodward (Mingara – Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS) defended his Men’s 200m backstroke in at time of 1:57.67.

Another highlight was 15 year old Sienna Toohey (Albury – Coach Wayne Gould) winning her first Open medal. Sienna claimed the silver medal in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke in a very quick 31.43. Also, in the same event Isabella Johnson (Cruiz – Coach Shannon Rollason) won the silver medal in the Age final dipping under 32 seconds for the first time in swimming a new PB of 31.76.

In the Multi Class Tim Hodge put in a great performance to win the Men’s 400m Freestyle in a new PB of 4:15.36…that places Tim in a very strong position in this event for the Paralympics!

Congratulations to our night 1 medal winners:
