The first night of finals at the Australian Swimming Championships got underway tonight. The swimmers and coaches are looking to see where they stand after the first quarter of the year in preparing for the Australian Team Trials in June, where the team will be selected for the 2023 World Championships.
This meet is also a trial meet for the Australian Para Swimming team to contest the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships to be held in Manchester, UK from the 31st July – 6th August. With the opportunity to qualify for the team in both heats and finals we were treated to some fast swimming in both sessions!
Here are some of the highlights:
- Timothy Hodge (ACU Blacktown) – 400m Freestyle Multi-Class – GOLD – Coach Misha Payne
- Tim swam a PB in the heats and finals whilst meeting the qualification standard for the Para Swimming World Championship Team.
- Bradley Woodward (Mingara – NSWIS HUB) – 200m Backstroke – GOLD – Coach Adam Kable
