Day 7: Piranhas Excel as Albury Girls go 1-2!

Another day another 9 Golds for the Mighty Blues as part of a 23 medal haul on Day 7 at the 2024 Australian Age Championships on the Gold Coast.

Our Metro North East clubs are certainly having a good time with Warringah Piranhas (Coach Angelo Basalo) winning another 3 Gold medals. The Higgs boys were at it again with both Sam and Luke winning their respective age 400m IM…Sam winning the 17yrs in 4:23.18 and Luke winning the 15yrs in 4:34.16.

Not to be outdone and adding to their medal haul Manly SC (Coach Justin Rothwell) claimed another 2 Gold medals. In the girls 15yrs 100m Butterfly Lillie Mcpherson dominated the field to win in 1:00.54…another PB. That is Lillie’s 3rd Gold of the meet. Josh Kerr won the Boys 18yrs 100m Backstroke in 56.31 in tricky conditions for backstrokers.

Chipping in with 1 Gold each were Knox Pymble & Carlile bringing the area total to 8! Ethan Haegebaert (Knox Pymble – Coach Steve Goodier) winning the Boys 14yrs 50m Backstroke in 27.71, adding to his collection of medals. Carlile swimmer Kaitlin Barry (Coach Michaela Pattinson) won the Girls 13yrs 200m Freestyle in a perfectly executed race plan in 2:07.10.

Albury Swim Club (Coach Wayne Gould) swimmers Sienna Toohey and Isabelle Rae (pictured) went 1-2 in the Girls 15yrs 50m Breaststroke, both going under 32 secs! Sienna winning in 31.58 and Isabelle coming home strong to take the silver in 31.80…bodes well for the 100m Breaststroke on Day 8!
