Swimmers from all over regional NSW will make the journey to contest the 2023 Swimming NSW Country Regional Meet at Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre from the 21st – 22nd January 2023.

The main aim of the NSW Country Regional Meets is to give up-and-coming country swimmers an opportunity to compete against each other at meets which are held in various parts of regional NSW. Three Country Regional Meets are run simultaneously at various venues in the Country Areas over the same weekend. This year, the meets will also serve as a chance to qualify for the 2023 NSW Country Championships.

Swimming NSW Chief Executive Officer, Mark Heathcote, explained how this joint venture between Dubbo Regional Council and Swimming NSW will provide the swimmers of the Dubbo region and their coaches a fantastic opportunity to compete at their own Country Regional Meet;

“The tender process for the Country Regional meets is always very competitive, however the involvement of Dubbo Regional Council in supporting the event coming to the region greatly strengthened the bid and now the people and swimmers of Dubbo and the surrounding areas have been rewarded with the hosting rights to one of these exciting meets.”

“Dubbo will see hundreds of athletes and their families making the trip to the meet which will not only provide the swimmers of Dubbo with a stronger pool of competition for their ongoing development but also present an excellent tourism opportunity for visitors to explore all the region has to offer.”

“The involvement of the Council in conjunction with Dubbo City Swimtech Swimming Club puts the meet in great stead to be one of the most successful Country Regional Meets of the year,” Mr Heathcote said.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor, Councillor Mathew Dickerson said “This Event presents a fantastic opportunity for competitive swimmers in the region to test themselves against the best in the region. We welcome all swimming competitors along with their families to the region to enjoy not only the fantastic Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre, but also everything that the region has to offer. We thank Swimming NSW for choosing Dubbo to host this exciting event and look forward to working with them for successful outcomes.”

Goulburn and Alstonville Swimming Clubs will also host a Swimming NSW Country Regional Meet over the same weekend.
