Day 1 Finals:

Great performances by Haig Buckingham (SOPAC) and Matthew Galea (SOPAC) spearheaded NSW results in the finals last night. Buckingham, once again went under the 1:01 mark for the second time today swimming a time of 1:00.51 in the final of the Men’s 100m Breaststroke. What a great experience for the 19 year old, swimming as the fastest qualifier and putting together another swim that placed him fourth in the final. Also, another eye catching performance was by Matthew Galea who placed fourth in the Men’s 400m Freestyle final. Matthew’s time of 3:48.47 whipped 1.40 secs off his entry time…both these swims were under the Australia A team qualifying time…well done to both Haig and Matthew and their coach Adam Kable.

In other results from the A finals:

•    Kayla Hardy (CRUIZ) and Lexi Harrison (ACU Blacktown) finishing 4th & 8th respectively in the Women’s 200m IM.
•    Matthew Wilson (SOPAC) finishing 6th in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke.
•    Abbey Connor (Revesby Workers) finishing 6th and Olivia Wunsch (Carlile) finishing 8th in the Women’s 100m Butterfly.
•    Madeleine Gough (Carlile) finishing 7th in the Women’s 400m Freestyle.

Also swimming at the Trials are some of the members of the Australian Para Team who will be competing at Manchester at the Para World Championships. New South Wales were represented by Jasmine Greenwood (CRUIZ) and Ricky Betar (CRUIZ) who are part of the SA Para HUB program at the AIS. They are both competing in timed final events that gives them a great hit out before the World Championships. Also, the Para Flippers Squad are competing as part of the Para Flippers Induction Camp that is running from the 10th – 15th June. NSW are represented by McKinley Arnison (Alstonville), Beau Matthews (SLC Aquadot), Riley Moore (Woy Woy), Chloe Osborne (ACU Blacktown), Hannah Price (Campbelltown), Amelie Springett-Kelly (COSAC) and Alexander Tuckfield (Southern Sydney).

We are all looking forward to Day 2 and are ready for some more strong performances from our Mighty Blues swimmers!
