2017 ascta NSW Coaching & Teachers Conference

The asctaNSW conference will be held from 16-17 September, 2017. At the conference there will be presentations from the best coaching & teaching talent in Australia. This year we are featuring Keynote Speaker, Alan Thompson.

Alan Thompson is a former Australian swimming coach, who was once the head coach of the Australian swimming team. He was appointed to the role in January 2005 and lead the team until 2010. Prior to this Alan has been both an Olympic Team Manager as well as Olympic Swimming Team Coach for the 2004 (Athens) and 2008 (Beijing) Olympics. Alan was a part of the National Team from 2001 – 2010. Alan is now the Bulldogs' general manager of football operations, looking after the club's high-performance recruitment, welfare and education programs.

Coaching Course Information

The Bronze Licence Coach has the competence to promote participation in swimming and to plan, prepare, conduct, monitor, evaluate and adapt training programs to enable swimmers to compete at club/district and regional level meets. For more information please click here. The total investment for the bronze licence course is $360.00 with a the cost separated between the online course fee ($260.00) and the face-to-face component ($100).

All coaches commence by gaining a Swim Australia Teach of Competitive Strokes Coach Accreditation (formerly Junior Squad and Assistant Coach accreditation). You must either attend a course or complete the Recognition of Current Competency (RCC). These are available who may possess some or all of the skills required. RCC Applications are available for each coaching tier.

A Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Strokes Coach (formerly Junior Squad and Assistant Coach) is involved with junior swimmers (i.e. swimmers 12-years and younger) who are in the early stages of the competitive swimming development and/or assist a suitably qualified and licensed coach in the delivery of competitive swimming programs for age group (i.e. 13-18 years) and open swimmers.

The qualification is known as the Teacher of Competitive Swimming and often abbreviated to TCS.
