The NSW Blues didn’t have everything go their way last night but swam tough to secure 2 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
Our first Gold medal was won by Cate Campbell (Knox Pymble – Coach Simon Cusack– Northern Area Hub) in the Women’s 50m Freestyle in a time of 0:24.30. Cate was closely followed by her sister Bronte who claimed the Bronze medal in a time of 0:24.51.
The other Gold medal of the night was won by Tiffany Thomas-Kane (SB7) (Monte – Coach Jon Bell) in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke. Tiffany’s time of 1:33.32 was just 0.01 slower than the PB she swam in the morning… great to see the hard work she has put in is paying off.
In other medal winning swims:
In the 18/19yrs 400m IM NSW swimmers picked up two medals with Thomas Peregrina (Knox Pymble – Coach Leanne Speechley) picking up the Silver medal in a time of 4:33.89. Thomas was closely followed by Joshua Wilkie (Revesby Workers – Coach Alex Clarke) who took the Bronze in a time of 4:34.18.
Collecting her second medal of the meet was the Kim Taylor-coached Emily Nobbs (Kinross Wolaroi) winning the Silver medal in the Women’s 17/18yrs 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2:34.46…her second PB of the meet.
In the Women’s 50m Freestyle Alicia Walker (Abbotsleigh – Coach Amanda Isaac) won Silver in the 19/20yrs age group in a time of 0:26.33. Also, Abbey Webb (Ginninderra – Coach Shannon Rollason – ACT Hub) grabbed the Silver medal in the 17/18yrs age group in a time of 0:25.65). That was Abbey’s second swim of the night after coming 4th in the Women’s 17/18yrs 200m Backstroke in a new PB of 2:17.12. Also swimming well was Becca St Vincent (Abbotsleigh) who got a well-deserved podium finish in the 17/18yrs 50m Freestyle, winning the Bronze medal. Becca has a 100% PB rate over her 4 swims.
Para Swimming
Once again there were some outstanding swims by the NSW Para swimmers last night. Joining Tiffany Thomas-Kane on the podium for the Women’s 100m Breaststroke was Ashley Van Rijswijk (SB14) (Wagga Wagga – Coach Gennadiy Labara) winning the Silver medal in a time of 1:20.95 – her second medal of the meet.
In the Men’s 200m Freestyle final Ricky Betar (S14) (Auburn – Coach Clinton Camilleri) came home in the last 50m in 0:28.64 to secure the Silver medal in yet another PB swim – that was Ricky’s third PB in as many events!
In the Women’s 200m Freestyle Jade Lucy (S14) (SLC Aquadot – Coach Gavin Stewart) took a massive 3.24 seconds off her entry time to collect the Silver medal in a time of 2:15.64… great job!
Looking forward to a successful Day 5…GO THE MIGHTY BLUES!
