Another exciting evening of racing occurred at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) last night with NSW athletes amongst the medals.
Leading off the night was the Men’s 12 & O 100m Freestyle – Matthew Levy (North Sydney – Coach Stephen Badger) Silver in a time of 1:02.08. In the same race Patrick Donachie (Campbelltown – Coach Justin McEvoy) came in 9th and Aidan Yourell (Lismore Workers – Peter Harvey) came 10th. This was followed by the Women’s 12 & O 100m Freestyle with Taylor Corry (Nelson Bay – Coach Tom Davis) picking up yet another medal this time it was Silver. Taylor swam a great PB to stop the clock in 1:00.42.
Next up was the Men’s 200m Freestyle with Joshua Hertz (SOPAC - Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS Hub Coach) picking up the Silver medal in a time of 1:45.68. Swimming to a 6th place was Myles Bailey (Ravenswood – Coach Mitch Falvey) in 1 :48.01 with his teammate Jack Edie coming in 9th place.
In the final of the Men’s 200m Backstroke NSW had 3 swimmers vying for title with Bradley Woodward (Mingara – Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS Hub Coach) picking up the Silver medal in a time of 1:53.17. Lewis Blackburn (Knox Pymble – Coach Simon Cusack) came 7th in 1:56.27 with Shaye Booth (Mingara – Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS Hub Coach) coming in 8th place in 1:56.59.
After collecting many Silvers during the night Hayley Baker (Canberra – Coach Shannon Rollason – ACT HUB) smashed out a fast 57.71 to win the Gold medal in the Women’s 100m Backstroke – Hayley’s second gold medal of the meet. Swimming in lane 0 was the 16-year-old Emily Jones (Hunter – Coach Kerry Saunders) who claimed her maiden Open medal winning the Bronze medal in a career best time of 1:00.05 – super swim! Also swimming in the final was Oriane Villiers (Canberra – Coach Shannon Rollason – ACT HUB), Claudia Neale (Knox Pymble – Coach Leanne Speechley) and Charli Brown (Manly – Coach Justin Rothwell) – coming 6th 7th & 8th respectively.
Picking up the Bronze medal in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke was Tomas Elliott (Ravenswood – Coach Mitch Falvey) in a very good time of 59.19. Tomas had to turn around pretty quick to line up for the final of the 200m IM. In a great result he took the Gold medal in 1:58.45…a great feat considering the fast turnaround from the 100m Breaststroke. Swimming to 4th place was James Traiforos (Trinity Grammar – Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS Hub Coach) in a time of 2:00.10. Luke Bibby (Narrabeen Carlile – Coach Ryo Kito) placed 7th in 2:01.71.
In the next race NSW swimmers filled the podium in the Women’s 100m IM with Meg Bailey (Hunter – Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS Hub Coach) with a smart time of 1:00.16. Picking up the Silver medal was Hayley Baker (Canberra) with the fast finishing Charli Brown (Manly – Coach Justin Rothwell) claiming her first Open medal – a Bronze in 1:01.52. In 5th place was Cassandra Van Breugel (Woy Woy – Coach Graeme Carroll) finishing in a time of 1:01.91.
In the Men’s 50m Butterfly Edward Marks (Carlile - Coach Adam Kable – NSWIS Hub) won Gold in a time of 23.09 with William Yang (Loreto Normanhurst – Coach Bobby Hurley) coming 4th in 23.35, Andrew Hemsworth (Knox Pymble – Coach Nic Dobson) placing 5th in 23.64, Shaun Champion (Abbotsleigh – Coach Amanda Isaac) 7th in 24.16

In the Men’s 4 x 200m Freestyle relay the team from Ravenswood placed 3rd in a time of 7:17.67.
