Mighty Blues State Relays Selection Criteria for Australian Age

Swimming Australia are cranking up the relay excitement this April in Adelaide!

State relays have been reintroduced at the 2022 Australian Age Swimming Championships (MC events 11-13 April, able-bodied events 13-18 April), which means we'll be selecting the speediest Mighty Blues to represent NSW with pride. Medals will be awarded to honour competitors.

Here's what you need to know and how our NSW panel will select relay swimmers:

Teams
  • Only one (1) State team per event per age group
  • The four fastest swimmers plus four reserves will be nominated for each event
Age Groups

Freestyle relays: 

  • Girls 13/14 years
  • Boys 14/15 years
  • Girls 15/16 years
  • Boys 16/17 years

Medley relays:

  • 2 x 13yr Girls/2 x 14yr Boys
  • 2 x 14yr Girls/2 x 15yr Boys
  • 2 x 15yr Girls/2 x 16yr Boys
  • 2 x 16yr Girls/2 x 17yr Boys
Age is determined by the swimmers age as at Monday 11th April, 2022
Events
  • 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay (Day 5 Finals session – Friday 15th April)
    • Events 119, 120, 121,122
  • 4 x 50m Mixed Medley Relay (Day 8 Finals session – Monday 18th April)
    • Events 189, 190, 191, 192
Selection Criteria
  • The four (4) fastest swimmers available for each event based on times collected by the selection panel over the selection period
  • Selection will be based on performances at SNSW Championship meets from January 1st, 2022, up to and including the day of the event
  • Team to be confirmed at the conclusion of the heat session on the day of the event (Day 5 & Day 8) 
Selection Panel
  • Jon Shaw (SNSW Coaching Director)
  • Chris Myers (SNSW Regional Coaching Director)
  • Impartial NSW Coach attending the Championships

Note: Swimming NSW may amend this selection guidelines at any time at its discretion and can make any necessary changes to the team.
