Last night was another successful night for the mighty NSW Blues winning another 14 medals: 6 Gold, 6 Silver, 2 Bronze.

Once again, the name Wilson was at the forefront of the action! Matthew had two finals last night winning Gold in the 100m Breaststroke in a new best time of 0:59.67. With confidence sky high he then took on the best in the 200m IM winning the Silver medal in yet another PB of 1:59.41. I’m sure his Coach Adam Kable will be pleased but knowing the job is not complete, keeping one eye on the trials in June. Also swimming in the 200m IM final was James Traiforos (Trinity Grammar – Coach Adam Kable – SOP Hub) placing 5th in a time of 2:01.29. In the 20/21yrs age final Lachlan Vane-Tempest (Abbotsleigh – Coach Amanda Isaac) grabbed the Silver medal in 2:07.84… taking 2.87 secs off his entry time.

In the Men’s 17/18yrs 100m Breaststroke Finn O’Connor (Carlile – Coach Misha Payne) swam a great race to finish with the Silver medal in 1:04.01. This goes with the Gold he won in the 200m Breaststroke.

In a confidence boosting swim Mia Rolfe (Carlile – Coach Misha Payne) won Gold in the Women’s 17/18yrs 50m Backstroke in a time of 0:29.48. Rounding out a trifecta for NSW was Georgina Seton (Campbelltown – Coach Justin McEvoy) winning Silver in 0:29.76 with Isabella Riley (Knox Pymble – Coach Leanne Speechley) picking up the Bronze in 0:29.82. The first Blues trifecta of the meet!

In the Women’s 17/18yrs 200m Freestyle final Abbey Webb swam an even paced race coming home strong in the last 50m (0:29.77) to win the Silver medal in 2:00.21. In the 19/20yrs age group Olivia Adams (Ravenswood – Coach Adam Kable – SOP Hub) picked up the Bronze in 2:01.08.

Para Swimming

The Para Swimming World will be standing up and taking notice of some great performances from our swimmers…all they will have to do is look at the rankings when the meet finishes!!

Once again it was the dynamic duo from Auburn smashing anything that comes their way and that includes World records and securing No.1 World rankings. In the Men’s 200m IM Timothy Hodge (SM9) won the Gold in 2:16.92 with his team mate 15-year-old Ricky Betar (SM14) picking up the Silver in a PB of 2:15.02. In the 50m Backstroke (a non-selection event for S6 athletes and above) Timothy (S9) set a new World mark of 0:29.70 when securing the Gold medal. The record was previously held by the legendary Australian Paralympian Matthew Cowdrey… that shows you the quality of Timothy’s swim! Obviously, Coach Clinton Camilleri has the boys prepared to the minute by these performances.

After setting a great PB in the morning Jasmine Greenwood (SM10) (Bay & Basin – Coach Bob McEvoy) repeated the effort in the final winning the Gold medal in 2:31.93. At the age of 14 Jasmine has plenty of improvement to come as she gears up for 2020.

In the non-selection event Taylor Corry (S14) (Nelson Bay – Coach Tom Davis) picked up her second Gold for the meet in winning the Women’s 50m Backstroke in a time of 0:32.43.

In total on Day 3 the Para Swimmers picked up 4 Gold and 1 Silver…great job swimmers and coaches!

Bring on Day 4… GO THE MIGHTY BLUES!
