Friday 8th November PM:
Some of NSW finest swimmers descended on the AIS for the Flippers/Futures Stroke Group Camp. A total of 45 swimmers were spilt into 5 groups: Free 50/100/200 led by Nick Dobson (Knox Pymble); Free 400 & IM up led by Angelo Basalo (Warringah); Fly led by Ben Tuxford (Trinity Grammar); Back led by Brett Winkworth. Adam Kable (NSWIS HUB) is also attending and working with all the groups.
The group coaches are: Franka Gieles (NUSWIM), Tatiana Matts (Macquarie Uni), Jared Goldthorpe (Newington), Daniel Neilson (Cronulla), Calum Timms (Trinity Grammar), Josh Stapley (The Hills). The group have the Science support of David Pease (ACT) and Gio Postiglione (Knox Pymble).
The aims of the camp are skills whist recognising that it is a training camp… initiating good skills whilst under pressure. Looking forward to a great 3 days!
Go The Mighty Blues!
Saturday 9th November AM:
This morning we broke the sessions into 2 groups as we were in 50m mode and wanted to ensure that all groups had quality water. First in were the 2 Free groups plus the IM swimmers. Second in were the Fly, Back & Breaststroke Groups. The beauty about this was that all coaches either came in earlier or stayed back to support their fellow coaches…on cohesive team with the swimmers benefitting! Gio & David also had the opportunity to work with the swimmers as we had a dedicated filming lane. A really good morning developed and executed in a performance environment.
Saturday 9th November PM:
Another great session and I believe some swimmers learnt and new level of grit and determination. Saturday consisted of some suited up swims in both sessions by different groups. The Distance group attacked a set that certainly asked some questions, but they rose to the occasion and challenged each other. The Breaststroke group suited up (they asked for it)…be careful what you wish for…but once again the swimmers rose to the occasion.
What a day with all coaches supporting each other with their sessions. After dinner the coaches sat down and Adam Kable did a presentation that gave them some insights and pitfalls of his coaching journey and some pointers on transitioning from Age to Open coaching. Appreciated by all!
One session to go…great learnings for both swimmers and the united coaching team!
Sunday 10th November AM:
A great camp finished today with huge learnings for both swimmers and coaches. Congratulations to all the swimmers that attended, your commitment to each session was outstanding! Lead coaches Angelo Basalo, Nick Dobson, Shannon Rollason, Ben Tuxford and Brett Winkworth – well planned and well executed! To the stroke group coaches Calum Timms, Josh Stapley, Tatiana Matts, Jared Goldthorpe and Franka Gieles…thank you for your enthusiasm and support for the swimmers and your fellow Mighty Blues coaches! As I say it’s the people in the camp that make the camp.
