A group of NSW’s most promising up and coming Open Water swimmers are travelling to the sunny state today to undertake four days of open water training and competition as part of Swimming NSW’s Open Water Target Squad activities.

Euan Liney (Knox Pymble), Harry Came (Cronulla), Mitchell Hickey (ACU Blacktown) and Charlie Gray (Revesby Workers) will spend the next three days working on open water skills under the guidance of Regional Coaching Director Chris Myers, and ACU Blacktown National Age Coach, Sarah-Jane Weir.

Swimmers will experience a mix of pool training and beach swimming sessions, before putting their newly learnt skills into practice at the Brisbane Open Water Championships at Oz Ski Resort on their final day in Queensland.

Kirsten Norden from swimnastics will join the squad on day two to take athletes through activation and stretching routines which they can bring home to their daily training environments.

Squad members will have access to top quality facilities in the Coolum Beach area including Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre and St Andrews School. Travelling to Queensland ahead of the Brisbane Open Water Championships also means NSW swimmers will have a chance to access Oz Ski Resort for a training session ahead of competition.

More than 520 competitors will contest the 2022 Brisbane Open Water Championships on 3 September. We wish our Mighty Blues the best of luck and look forward to following their progress.

Swimming NSW's Performance Pathway

  • Purpose
  • The purpose of Swimming NSW's Performance Pathway Program is to create a leading progressive pathway that will be effective in advancing participants.

It has been created to align with the Australian Swimming Framework (ASF), which outlines every aspect of Swimming Australia's athlete pathway, including the characteristics of athletes and how they develop and progress through each stage.

The ASF provides swimmers, their parents, coaches and service providers with easy access to key information relating to the necessary characteristics they should aim for at the relevant stage of their journey, together with what support is recommended as part of their daily performance environment.

  • Squad Selection Criteria and Lists
  • Swimming NSW's mission for our Performance Pathway Program is to create sustained excellence through a robust program that supports NSW coaches and athletes.
